About

Exploring liminal spaces between writing, movement, visual arts and research.

Emilie Mansour is a cross-disciplinary artist, author and performer investigating the place of an artist citizen and the intersections of literature, bodies, memory and urban landscapes during extremely fast and violent changes. Her artistic practice is a constant self-reflection on her own place as a female artist exploring liminal spaces between writing, movement, research and more traditional art technics.

Growing up on a Caribbean island, far from urban issues and challenges, Emilie later found her inspiration in Beirut living in the Middle East since 2004, mainly Beirut and Dubai. She holds a double MA in Physics/Material Sciences and Contemporary Dance in INSA Lyon France, and a Sorbonne PhD in Literature and Comparative Studies “Women in Wartime Beirut (1975-1990). A Geocritical Approach to the Beirut Decentrists”, during which she introduced the concept of Urbigraphy.

In the past, Emilie has collaborated as a contemporary dancer, performer and choreographer with Maqamat Dance Theater, Beirut/Sharjah (2010-2012), Ali Chahrour, Beirut/Holland (2010-2012), Eszter Salamon, Beirut (2011) and photographer Joe Kesrouani.

She is currently Research Associate at Women and Gender Studies in the American University of Beirut and an artist member of Tashkeel in Dubai.
